Report Description
When the exploration for petroleum products to meet the rising demand in the 19th century sped up, the need for catalysts was felt to quicken up the production of petroleum products. A number of chemicals began to be used to make the extraction process faster and to simplify the purification process. As the extraction of petroleum products involves a number of processes, catalysts are being used in most of the processes. With the growing concern over environment protection, new types of environment protection catalysts also have been introduced. As the demand for crude oil went up from 83 million barrels/day in 2006 to 85.6 million barrels/day in 2008, the consumption of refinery catalysts also went up, following a similar trend. With the world-wide production of crude oil stated for an increase at a rate of slightly more than 1% in the next four years and the increasing concern over environment preservation, the demand for refinery catalysts is bound to increase at a decent rate.
